Frequently Used Policies:
NON-DISCLOSURE OF STUDENT INFORMATION
If you would prefer not to have your child’s name, and photograph published in any KIS publication such as yearbook, newsletter, honor roll list, school activities, etc., please come in to fill out a non-disclosure form.
Cafeteria Duty
Each day, 15 students from a class will be assigned to cafeteria duty for the class period before lunch.
If, for any reason, the student is not able to participate in cafeteria duty and or/physical education due to a health condition, a written medical excuse from their doctor is required. The note should state the reason and duration of the restriction. This should also be turned into the health aide at the beginning of school or at the onset of any particular condition.
If a student has been absent from school due to illness, he/she should not be sent to the cafeteria unless he/she has been back in school for at least three days. Students with colds or infections should not be sent to the cafeteria.
Covered shoes are required for lunch duty. They will be provided if necessary.
The cafeteria duty schedule will be posted on this site later in the school year, and each morning the Short Report morning broadcast will announce which class has café duty that day.
Reporting Student Progress
Kailua Intermediate School will provide a formal printed report at the end of each quarter. This report card will reveal the individual progress of each student. The purpose of the report is to provide the student and parent with information about the student's development and performance. Each report covers a period of time from 8 to 10 weeks in length. The first through third quarter report cards will be distributed to the students to take home. The fourth quarter report card will be available for pick-up two to three weeks after the last day of school.
Conferences regarding student progress may be initiated at any time by either the parent or the teacher.
Progress reports will be sent home each mid-quarter to all students who are failing or receiving a "D" in any class. Progress reports may also be sent for those students who are passing but could improve in the subject area. Progress reports for students who may need improvement are at the discretion of each teacher.
Infinite Campus is an internet-based student progress-reporting program utilized by the school to communicate with both students and parents. School year 23-24 will be teachers 1st year using Infinite Campus for assignments, so thank you in advance for allowing us some time to try out, figure out, and get used to, this new system.

Comprehensive Student Support System (CSSS)
Kailua Intermediate School is dedicated to the needs of all students and provides an array of student support services. Every student is provided a challenging academic program and the support services needed to maximize student achievement and meet the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards and Common Core.
KIS believes that all well supported students can learn. We highly encourage school and parent partnerships in education. It is through these partnerships that children who need extra services can be identified and intervention strategies put into place.
With the implementation of a Comprehensive Student Support System, KIS provides and integrates support services that allow:
More students receiving services in the general education classroom
Improvement in attainment of Hawaii Content and Performance Standards and academic achievement scores
A reduction in the number of students failing courses or retained
Fewer disciplinary actions
Increased student and family participation and satisfaction
Students feeling safe, happy and supported at school
Student growing socially, emotionally and academically and gaining the skills necessary to be successful in high school, post secondary school and in the world at work
Develops responsible citizenship
Starting from a comprehensive needs assessment (CNA), schools design measurable outcomes from the study of organizational, instructional, and student support systems. The measurable outcomes are implemented and improved through Plan, Do, Study, Act (PDSA) cycles, and systemized by leading indicators.
If you have questions about the above requirements or procedures, please call the school at 808-307-1400.
