Art Classes
We have two art classes for students to take at Kailua Intermediate:
Intro to General Art and Art and Design. Each course is open to students in both grade 7 & 8, but Art & Design does have a prerequisite.
Introduction to General Art
OBJECTIVES:
1. Experiment with and gain skill in the handling of a variety of art materials, tools and equipment both two- and three-dimensional art forms, with emphasis in the two-dimensional area.
2. Apply the understanding of The Elements of Art and The Principles of Design by producing original works of art in 2-D and 3-D designs.
3. Identify, analyze, and discuss works of outstanding artists in the local community, state, nation, and world.
DESCRIPTION: This is a one-semester introductory art course providing students with opportunities to imaginatively create artwork through a limited scope of media and techniques. Activities include experiences in art production and art appreciation, which leads to aesthetic sensitivity and an understanding of the interrelationships of diverse cultures as well as the personal search for meaning. This course focuses on Visual Arts Content Standards.
ASSIGNMENT EXPECTATIONS:
1. Completion of daily and weekly assignments.
2. A sketchbook, pencils, eraser, colored pencils, color markers, scissors and ruler will be required.
3. Each student must:
a. Utilize all materials and attempt all assignments using one's own ideas.
b. Respect their artwork as well as others.
c. Clean up work area.
d. Work with other students in a cooperative manner.
EVALUATION CRITERIA: Students will be graded on completed projects, sketchbook, class participation, quizzes and work habits. Originality, ability to follow directions and craftsmanship determine the grade.
Introduction to Art & Design
OBJECTIVES:
1. Advanced skills in the handling of a variety of art materials, tools and equipment both two- and three-dimensional art forms, with emphasis in the two-dimensional area. (Advance skills in Drawing)
2. Apply the understanding of The Elements of Art and The Principles of Design by producing original works of art in 2-D and 3-D designs.
3. Describe, analyze, interpret, judge and discuss multicultural works of outstanding artist in the local community, state, nation, and world.
DESCRIPTION: This course focuses on the exploration of art media and techniques for personal expression and provides students with further opportunities to apply the elements and principles of design in imaginative solutions to visual problems. Art forms of historical periods and diverse cultures are also studied as contextual introductions to the art processes. This course focuses on Visual Arts Content Standards.

3. Each student must:
a. Utilize all materials and attempt all assignments using one's own ideas.
b. Respect their artwork as well as others.
c. Work with other students in a cooperative manner.
d. Develop personal style and maintain/ build a portfolio.
e. Clean up work area.
EVALUATION CRITERIA: Students will be graded on completed projects, sketchbook, class participation, portfolio, quizzes and work habits. Originality, ability to work independently on expressive projects and craftsmanship determine the grade.
PREREQUISITE: Must have taken FVB0015 “Introduction to General Art” or Portfolio Review/Recommendation by Art Teacher.
