PE and Health
The need for physical activity exists to maintain an efficient body that performs more effectively and makes for a healthier individual who will be able to cope with the demands of society. To ensure equitable educational opportunities, classes are sex-integrated and activities are diverse and relevant to student needs, abilities, and interest.
The general goals of the Secondary Physical Education Program are designed to develop students who:
1. Demonstrate successful movement at a basic level and some movement forms at mastery level.
2. Apply movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.
3. Exhibit a physically active lifestyle.
4. Demonstrate ways to achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.
One unit of physical education is required at the intermediate level.
This unit is divided into two classes, one semester each.
A semester class is taken each year in both grades 7 and 8.
If, for any reason a student is not able to participate in physical education a written medical excuse from the doctor is required. The note should state the reason and duration of the restriction. This should be turned into the health aide at the beginning of the school year or at the onset of any particular condition.

MAIN IDEA:
Learning about health and fitness and engaging in physical activity throughout life that enables a person to lead a healthier and more productive life. Being healthy throughout life can produce many positive benefits for the body as well as the mind. It is our responsibility to teach and guide our children to become independent, confident, and productive people in society. We strive to teach the importance of being healthy, fit, and self-confident.
OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the seventh grade physical education program is to introduce many of the skills, concepts, and activities that lead to a healthy lifestyle. Students will learn the basic skills that enable them to successfully participate in various physical activities and will also learn the basic concepts to be healthy and physically fit.

MAIN IDEA:
Learning about health and fitness and engaging in physical activity in the adolescent years sows the seed for good habits and practices throughout life. Creating positive physical experiences that teaches and guides students to become confident, to endure and overcome fears and obstacles enables a person to lead a healthier and more productive life. Being healthy throughout life can produce many positive benefits for the body as well as the mind. It is our responsibility to teach and guide our children to become independent and realize their potential by striving to do their best at all times, become leaders and be helpful to others. We strive to teach our students the importance of hard work, humility, kindness, respect and consideration.
OBJECTIVES:
The objective of the eighth grade physical education program is to build and expand upon the concepts fitness, health, and sport by applying the basic knowledge learned in these areas through research, projects and presentations. We will explore the relationships between these areas to improve and sustain a healthy and productive life.

1. Wear P.E. uniform and gym shoes daily.

7th Grade Teen Health Class
(Semester) XWG0011HL
Teen Health is a required health education course aligned to Hawaii Content Performance Standards and National Health Standards. This course utilizes a “hands-on health” approach to build core knowledge and skills and promote healthy behaviors in seven content areas. Students will:
1) identify core concepts related to health and disease prevention,
2) access valid health information,
3) practice health-enhancing behaviors,
4) analyze factors that influence their health,
5) use interpersonal skills to communicate effectively,
6) use decision-making and goal-setting skills, and
7) advocate for personal, family and community health.
