Get to Know KIS

Kailua Intermediate School (KIS) is a comprehensive public intermediate school serving grades seven and eight.

Our location is situated in a residential area near the center of Kailua town, minutes away from beautiful sandy beaches.

KIS draws the majority of its students from nine elementary feeder schools in Kailua. Our current student population is around 750 students. Upon completion of the eighth grade, most KIS students move on to Kalāheo High School, Kailua High School, or a private secondary school.

KIS is located near Marine Corps Base Hawaiʻi (MCBH), resulting in approximately thirty percent of KIS students being military dependents.

The Boys and Girls Club House Windward Chapter (BGCH) is located on the Kailua Intermediate campus. BGCH provides a safe enriching place for students to explore interests, create friendships, build leadership skills, and character development.

KIS is fully accredited by WASC.  Most recently in Spring 2023 we were granted accreditation status for a 6 year term.
